Aspyr finally releases Mac version of Civ IV: Beyond the Sword

Posted on 31 July 2009

61Z+q8mvOvL._SL500_AA280_UNBELIEVABLE – video game publisher Aspyr has finally released a Mac version of Sid Meier’s Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword expansion pack only TWO YEARS after it came out for Windows. What the heck? (Tip o’ the cap to CivFanatics for alerting me to the news).

I may be peeved but that probably won’t stop me from ordering it (I installed a Windows Bootcamp partition on my Macbook Pro a few years ago almost exclusively to play Beyond the Sword).

Weird that they finally did it after all the zigzagging in their public pronouncements. In April, they put up a promo page for the Mac version of Civ IV:BTS, only to take down the page a month later. Whatever.

N.B. Be careful ordering this game on Amazon.com. Amazon itself sells the game for $34.99 with free shipping. But they’re also hosting sales by Lakeplace Games for $43.28 plus $4.99 shipping. Of course, Lakeplace lists the game for immediate shipping and Amazon, as of August 1, has it for immediate shipping, too.  appears to have sold out of its initial inventory so you’ll have to wait a bit.

  • Crash
Whereas on the PC we now have CIV4 Complete for 29.95, Civ4 + Warlords + BTS + Colonization.
  • Civ IV Colonization won't be hitting the Mac until 2012, at this rate :)
