Boo-hoo, Civ IV Mac

Posted on 08 July 2006

Well, it seems you need a G5 or Intel-based Mac to play Civ IV. Looks like I’m outta luck since I’ve got neither and the whole idea was to play on the commuter train on my Powerbook G4 (ps don’t ever, ever buy 1st generation hardware like round I of the new Macbook Pro).

At first, I thought/hoped that the listed requirements might be overly conservative but many folks have reported in (See Macenstein, for example) and the game plays slow EVEN ON NEW MACS! Yipes. What a dog. Incidentally, I have found that Civ IV for Windows is almost to slow to sit through on my home brew systen which I thought wasn’t slouchy (AMD Sempron 64 2500+ using 768 MB of RAM, a Western Digital 10,000 RPM SATA hard drive and an Nvidia-based AGP 8X video card).
