(Updated 8/26 with some more blogs)
I love my Kindle and try to write about it here frequently but I don’t keep up with every development. I have subscribed to a few blogs that are more focused on the Kindle on a daily basis. Since I recently got some traffic from a few links on those sites, I thought it would be fair to mention them and send some readers their way.
Joe Wikert, a publishing exec at John Wiley & Sons, runs the Kindleville blog. He covers and critiques all the latest controversies and provides great links from all over the web. Wikert has a solid grasp of the business of publishing and his blog reflects a smart, business-y perspective.
Jim Cheshire, author of Decoding the Kindle and other technical books, is more of a hands on guy on his blog, not surprisingly called Decoding the Kindle. He’s often discussing new features of the Kindle or the Kindle store while also explaining how to get the most out of the device. There’s also links to the occasional good read and other Kindle-related material on the web.
The Kindle Reader is a very different sort of Kindle-focused blog but highly useful. Retired librarian Jan Zlendich who writes the blog highlights great stuff to read on Kindle, including new releases and other additions in the Kindle store along with sources for free books.
I’m just catching up with a new podcast focused on the Kindle by Len Edgerly, who I’ve seen described as a retired journalist (no “about” page on his web site). The podcast, which comes out on Fridays and is available through iTunes, is called the Kindle Chronicles. Len certainly has a smooth voice and sounds great. I’m not sure a podcast is the right medium for me to keep up with Kindle news but give it a listen.
I also am a member of Yahoo’s extremely active Kindle group called Kindle Korner. I subscribe to the daily summary of all postings and it’s quick and easy to scroll through the lengthy email and read just the posts that interest me.
Don’t forget that all the major gadget blogs also cover the Kindle pretty closely and have specialized tags so you can get tipped off just to those posts. For example, try checking in at http://www.engadget.com/tag/kindle/ now and then.
Any other suggestions from the peanut gallery?
UPDATE: I forgot to include a couple of good e-book blogs that write a lot about Kindle. The Teleread blog is a team effort that covers all aspects of the industry, including hardware, publishing and technology. I find that some of the contributors’ commentary reflects common misconceptions about the Kindle, but as a team they write a lot of good stuff and keep up with all the news. Their comparison of competing e-reader software for the iPhone is a must-bookmark, for example.
O’Reilly Media also has a good blog — again I’m not saying I agree with the slant of their Kindle coverage — called Tools of Change for Publishing. Some of their posts are a little inside baseball for the average e-book reader but most of it is good stuff.
