Fantastico, the web server application installation service used by my hosting company, finally posted version 2.5 of WordPress so I hit the button for the upgrade. So far no visible hiccups. The writing and administration screens are less colorful than before but I have yet to uncover many differences. The Mandigo theme, upgraded to version 1.33.1, is still functioning, as well.
Around the web, opinion has been mixed. Tibi Puiu at the Lost Art of Blogging blog wrote an exhaustive review concluding that “WordPress 2.5 is a great improvement to its predecessors, both esthetically and practically, proving once more that they’re on top of the game in the blogosphere.”
Meanwhile, Raj Dash over at the Performancing blog absolutely hates it in his review. “Automattic, you seriously dropped the ball on this. WordPress 2.5 is an enormous disappointment in the simplest of features,” he says. Youch! Aaron Brazell splits the difference with a list of 10 things you need to know about the update.
Hmm, well i shouldn’t have spoke so soon. The visual editing mode doesn’t let me add links to my posts properly from Firefox 2.0.0.14. Ugh. Works fine in Safari. Hmm…
