(Updated 2/16 – not the iPhone)
Motorola tantalized the masses in January at the Consumer Electronics Show with a demo of a mobile phone that could also play digital music in Apple’s iTunes Store format. While a billion reporters and bloggers sought to be the first to post a picture of the first phone compatible with the most popular digital download store’s format, Moto revealed that the demo was semi-faked. They were producing a phone with iTunes support but the model shown in Las Vegas wasn’t it — it was an older phone juiced up for a one-time demo.
And today it happened again! Reuters and a bunch of gadget sites reported that the E1060 was it. Nope. Mobiletracker debunked the reports within 24 hours.
It sounds like from the promotional materials that the E1060’s Bluetooth may be crippled a la Verizon’s Moto V710 phone — “With class 2 Bluetooth® wireless technology, you can seamlessly transfer information between your Motorola E1060 and a compatible PC, PDA or other compatible Bluetooth® -enabled device. Or, indulge in hands-free discussions using a compatible Bluetooth® headset or car kit while your phone is up-to 30 feet away.” No mention of using it as a modem or to connect your PC to the Internet.
