I have to say that today’s Steve Jobs announcements left me less than thrilled. iPods didn’t get bigger screens, my main desire, and why would I pay for a cheesy, low resolution downloaded movie when I can buy a DVD for almost the same price and rip my own cheesy version? And iTV sounds great in theory but what exactly is it and how well will it work? Well, ok, the NFL highlights sound kinda cool but they don’t start until Sept. 18!
But having just made a cross-country, round-trip air trip with my two-year-old daughter, I’m desperately open to the idea of extending my iPod’s battery life. The dang thing only runs for a couple of hours showing video and, frankly, that’s just not enough Blue’s Clues episodes (and from the first season with Steve, ahh, Steve) to get from Boston to Seattle or back, especially when there are delays at the terminal. Sure, I could buy a whole new iPod for supposedly slightly longer life, but I’d rather save my upgrade dollars for something more worthy. Thus I’m intrigued by Memorex’s new iFlip, which integrates an 8.4″ screen and a battery that runs for 5 hours. It’s supposedly to be available real soon now for under $200. Send me one now…review to come.
