About time, Starbucks and iTunes

Starbucks' Hear Music on iTunes

Something like 20 years ago, I first encountered Hear Music as a catalog of cool albums selected by some people with taste like mine. They may have pioneered the idea of getting recommendations from favorite artists. It was a great way to learn about old stuff like the blues and jazz, too. But like many consumer offerings that appeal to me, Hear didn’t do so well and eventually was reduced to a small record chain. Eventually they sold out to Starbucks, a promising move to reinvigorate the brand.

I’d think that every iPod user over the age of 30 (or who has tastes in music of the same era) would love to see what Hear has going on these days. Finally, finally, comes word that they are running their own section in Apple’s iTunes music store. About time.
